Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Macro VI (Advanced Editing V)
Camera: Nikon D200
Lens: Nikon AF Nikkor 35mm f/2.0D
Date: Oct 13, 2007
Aperture: 8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/100
Date Uploaded: Oct 13, 2007

I actually don't own a macro lens. This was taken with my 35mm as it has the best magnification ratio of the lenses I own. I then cropped to get a better macro view.

Underside of a mushroom that hasn't bloomed yet.
Nothing too special, but I like to thank the 30 day lighting challenge in helping me understand the importance of lighting which I think helped this shot.

Post was pretty minimal. Done in Capture NX.
Used auto levels.
Added a few control points on the areas.
Severe crop (a rarity for me, but necessary for the challenged).

This one has pretty good technicals, so I am guessing it will do fairly well in the challenge.

I would never have guessed this was a mushroom. I thought it was some kind of stick. Awesome details and the black and white conversion is excellent.

I thought butter churner too - I am completely surprised. Amazing textures and good placement of shadows - I agree you did very well with lighting here.

I voted this a 6. I like the diagonal composition and the details in the stem and bottom of the crown. As with many photos, I think I would've liked it even better with more contrast. I think you did quite well lacking a real macro lens.

Cool - nice textures and light. I had no idea this was a mushroom. It looked upside down like a wooden bucket with a pole like a butter churner? or an exotic pineapple drink.

In my humble and oft-ignored opinion, this is underrated - it's an excellent study in light, shadow, and detail.
