This was taken with a Canon MP-E 65mm and a Canon Twin light flash, mounted on a focus rail and tripod. The flash allows a great deal of flexibility with placement and power of the flash heads and I experimented with varying flash positions and lighting ratios with magnifications ranging from 1X-5X. I wanted to bring out the eye detail as much as possible but had a great deal of problems dealing with specular reflections off the eyes.
The raw image was processed in Lightroom and a couple of small threads were removed in PS.

first submission!

For those of you who asked, Those are "simple" eyes on the top the head as opposed to the large "compound" eyes.

thanks to all for your positive comments.

WOW! That is an awsome macro. Great detail on the hairs. What lens (lenses?) did you use go get that close and sharp?

Any idea what the three eye-looking thing is on it's head? (never seen one close enough to notice that before)
