 This is water coloured with food colouring dripped into water with black ink in it.

CLaire lovethelight asked for some details on the set-up. There's not a lot to tell really.
I used a very shallow frying pan to hold the ink/water and dripped the coloured water into it.
Although this looks pretty simple, it took a lot! of shots to get. The drop had to go through the liquid surface first to cause the ripple.
In the end, the ripple and the simplicity of the colour contrast were the deciding factors in choosing this for the challenge.

I did not think another drop/ripple photo would get my attention, but this makes me say "wow." I undervalued it at first look because of familiar subject (still got a '7' from me, which I hope didn't hurt your ranking).

I hope you share some details on this shot, I have tried this THREE times this week, like 3 different sets of 3-4 hour time slots where I drip drip drip change liquid change lighting change lenses and still havn't got a shot as great as this. congrats
