The Wellsville Mountains are, supposedly, the steepest mountains in the world—that is, the angle from ridge line to base is the smallest of any other mountain range. I'm not sure it's true, but I do know that the trail climbs relentlessly up and then goes relentlessly down. This is taken from the top of Boxelder Peak, the highest peak in the range. Beyond is Cache Valley — my home.
Processing: I first did an autocolor (since I'm slightly colorblind). Then I selected the blurry clouds and surrounding blue sky behind and cleaned up the noise there with Neatimage. I also sharpened using a large pixel radius and low percentage to add contrast and definition. I selected the entire sky and used the channel mixer to convert to black and white. Then I did the same for the rest of the photo. I used the shadow/highlight tool to bring out details in the shadows, especially on that ridge in the center. Resized, sharpened, fiddled with levels once more, added a border and saved for web. |

Nice scene. The rugggedness is enhanced by the b&w. The clouds are incredible! I enjoy your landscapes! |
