I like the diagonal movement of the composition and the light vs. dark. Very good.

My eye is drawn to the lighter spot on the carpet instead of the cats face.

I really like the coloring in the eyes of this cat. The expression (do cats have expressions?) is great. I have a heard time finding the cat in the picture though, it is too dark, and most of the picture is basically black, I can't really make out the cat except for its face. I actually think this would have been a much more appealing shot if it was a tighter shot on the face, try cropping it and see what it looks like.

Dramatic lighting. Those in-camera flashes can be a real pain in the ass when it comes to photographing kitties. I put Kleenex over my flash to diffuse the light :P. It doesn't always work though. Sometimes, converting it to a Black/White photo will "hide" the reflective eyes. Using the Unsharp Mask filter can also help hightlight that cuddly looking fur.
