I don't do this kind of stuff a lot and this is the first time I tried to photograph something nonhuman with my new alien bees lights. Here is a shot of my setup:

It was INSANE trying to get the lighting right on this. I had no idea lighting a flower would be so difficult but it made me crazy and I am still not all that satisfied with the result. I am looking forward to getting some comments on this image to help me do better if I ever try doing this kind of thing again. I know there isn't as much light on the right as there is on the left, the reflector placed under the right bud helped A LOT but in the end I could never get the light balanced and the challenge being basic editing didn't help. I am just going to go with the idea that the bud is closed and shy and doesn't want as much light on it :)

Score prediction: 6+ but it isn't really anything crazy special so I am hoping for top 30-50

You have an amazing style Claire, a natural flair for visuals and that's amply visible in most of your pics i have seen ( the first one was your striking pose image in water) . Keep it going and keep the spirit kicking, i'm sure you got much brighter days ahead

If you are looking for comments on the lighting, I think it is right on... well maybe more brightness on the flower and less on the leaves. Also, a friend showed me how to remove the pollen from these flowers. It actually gives a different look to the flower. You may want to try it both ways.
BTW: I thought this was a great shot.

The black background really makes the flower stand out. The sharpness of the photo makes it more striking as well. Nice job! Good luck!
