 A small forested area along my commute where I've wanted to stop for a long time. It was more rewarding than I even imagined. In the winter these little valleys will fill with rain water and make beautiful ponds. Can't wait to go back then.

Levels to set black and white points
Hue/Sat to darken and colorize sky
Curves to brighten dark tree trunks selected with color range
Overlay dodge and burn to remove shadows in foreground and darken tree foliage
Hue/Sat to bring out reds and yellows in foreground leaves
Brightness/Contrast to increase contrast in foreground
Hue/Sat to intensify yellow in grass

This is absolutely beautiful. The image is so soft. Love how the light comes through the trees and creates some nice shadows in just the right places.

What a great fall photo. I like the lighting (and shadows) on the leaves, and the photo is very nicely detailed.

this is a great setting, but you do lose some detail toward the top where you're lightening the sky.

maybe try to combine two (or more) exposures and gradually work your way up from dark to light?

Aren't these side challenges so fun to get us to stop and take note of our world around us. I'm glad you stopped and shared this beautiful little spot with us. I'd love to see the winter version too!
