 First of all, I would like to give all the credit to Hopper! His photo was what I based all my inspiration on for this challenge.

This looked like a fairly easy ribbon entry to re-produce (a ring, key, computer keyboard). Once I got into taking the photos and with lighting and editing, this turned out to be about a 5 hour odd project! Probably about 60+ photos of different lighting and angles and settings etc.

I know I'am no-where near what he managed to come up with, but as the challenge stated "emulate it as closely as possible". This was as close I managed to do and I hope everyone enjoys it and Hopper gets a kick that I borrowed his photo for my entry.

(pssst high marks please) ;)

This is what I tried:
auto levels
rotated ccw
clone stamp to remove debris between keys (ewww)
brightness/contrast upped a bit
desat green (lightness)
cropped to match Hopper's entry
resized
usm
save for web/optimize

...headed up north to my cottage to go boating :)


Side note: This was also my first entry into the "members" challenges! weeeeeeeeee

Very close. I think the white balance was better on the original. Perhaps the keyboard is a different color, but the original has a brighter crisper look.

The original is just a bit sharper and better lit shot than this one. Not that this is bad.

Nice lighting, sharp details and good color tones on your emulation of the original. I really don't have much to add but I do have one suggestion on one element of the photo. Adjusting your lighting such that you catch a gleam in the diamond of the ring would increase visual interest for it would call more attention to that ring - not to mention add a subtely interesting ironic juxtaposition of spotlighting the beauty of the sparkling diamond paired with this negative message in the keyboard. Also the ring would look a bit more visually appealing if the surface was not so tarnished - although it does add a bit to the composition for you could say it is a subtle nod that this relationship has grown tarnished. Hmmm, boy I really didn't have that much to say as I look back;-)
