 I replaced my water pump in my '76 Chevy last summer and didn't have the heart to throw it away. I figured I would someday use it as a subject for one of my photographs and this seemed like the right time.

I leaned the water pump against the black faux leather surface of a tilted card table. I then illuminated the subject from different angles with a flashlight during the 20 second exposure.

Slight levels: The exposure is just right for my monitor, but I lightened the image up slightly for those that may have their monitors set darker.

I originally only saw the top three quarters of this and loved it but when I scrolled down the space below ruined it. A tighter crop from below would dramatically improve this great concept. The space on the right does work well.

The lighting is pretty good. You're getting shadows on top of the subject which may be what you want.
On a personal level, I don't like the placement of the subject in the frame.
