 Looking for something to photo after the afternoon shadows. The sun was pretty bright. Stumbled upon this beautiful green chameleon among the orange-red flowers of the fire cracker bush. Got as close as I could without scaring him off. He looked so cute stretched out on the flower. As I took the shot he slightly tilted his head in my direction. Shortly after taking this shot he took off.

POST COMMENT: Thank you all for the wonderful comments. This had been an educational challenge for me. I now have learned the correct name for this lizard. I was always told it was a chameleon. As a matter fact it is referred to as the American Chameleon but is not related to the old world chameleon. It is related to the iguana and it is a Anole lizard. Again thank you everyone.

Wonderful macro. I like lizards too, but they are difficult to photograph. The colors make this shot for me. The lizard certainly looks comfortable all stretched out in the sunshine. Great details on the lizard too, due to getting a good angle for the depth of field to cover most of his length.

Wow! An amazing photograph. Looks like something out of National Geographic. I really hope this finishes in the top three. I love the colors, the clarity, lighting and composition. you have it all. If I could give you three 10s, I would.

Love the detail on the lizard. Nicely composed as well. The green in the background takes away a little of the pop of the lizard, though.

Very interesting mixture of textures and colors here. He is almost camouflaged, despite contrasting with the red. I like it!

Excellent rich, bright and complimentary colors in this. The diagonal composition with the shape of the reptile works well, too. I suspect for a higher score here he needs to be in even crisper focus, but I'd guess this is doing pretty well. Nice catch!
