Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Bokeh IV (Basic Editing)
Camera: Nikon D200
Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED
Location: South Africa, Pretoria
Date: Sep 2, 2007
Aperture: 5.6
ISO: 800
Shutter: 1/400
Galleries: Nature, Macro
Date Uploaded: Sep 4, 2007

There was originally a second bumblebee in the shot (but I cropped it out). I couldn't get close enough to use my reversed 50mm lens for a macro, so I shot this at 70mm on my 18-70. This was in the shade so I had to kick up the ISO to get a decent shutter speed. Shot in aperture priority mode with +0.7 EV exposure adjustment, manual focus.

Converted from RAW. Noise reduction. Cropped quite a bit. Resize, smart sharpen and save for web.

Wow it looks like mothra from the godzilla movies lol.

Great capture, you really got some good focus on that bug and that's not easy to do.

Does the bokeh enhance the subject? That I'm not so sure about. Even with all the nice little circles of light, there is a lot of activity in the background and the dimly lit bug sort of disappears in the cacophony.
