Photographed at sunset, facing East (using available light; sun at my back), off the side of the road in Apache Junction.
I was really hoping to get a hummingbird shot this week, but the hummers just aren't happy with me constantly snapping photos of them. So, I took off down the road to find something pretty and in-bloom to photograph. I expected with all the rain we've had recently, I could find plenty of subjects... Wow, I was very wrong. Not a bloom on anything in sight. Went up a nature trail I love... nada. Finally, as the sun was going down on the last day I could have grabbed a shot, I took some shots of my favorate cactus -- the jumping cholla. Loved the variations in focus on the other two sprouts in this shot, with the sky/mountains completely out of focus in the back.
Shot handheld, with VR/normal.
Still learning my post processing in LR, but I think this came out quite well, and I liked punching up the green and orange in the cholla to give it a little more vibrance.
Composition: Subject Placement, Cropping, Background good,
Technical: Focus, Exposure: good,
Appeal:lovely soft colour, good focal point and it is different
