Challenge: Things That Go Together (Advanced Editing I)
Camera: Sony DSC-F717
Location: Kitchen counter
Date: Jan 31, 2004
Aperture: 2.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/10
Galleries: Still Life, Black and White

Shot in the kitchen on the counter. Cardboard box is behind the setup and entrie set is a navy blue sheet. I converted to b/w just because it looked better. I had a small halogen lamp on top of the box to provide light and a white sheet was used to diffuse the lighting somewhat.

I did some serious last minute shopping today to get everything I needed. I know it's probably not the most creative composition in the group (non-symmetrical cookies and milk is angled) but that's ok. Trust me, the cookies were stacked symmetrically but from a different angle instead. And, yes, I know the sheet is wrinkled, it's brand new and not washed yet. :)

(Simplified) steps taken:
1. Crop.
2. Convert to grayscale.
3. Clone out annoying lines from creases in the sheets and some spots on the glass.
4. Recreate the shadow from the plate or at least try to create it.
5. Unsharp.
6. Add border.
7. Compress to fit file size.

Thanks to all those people who voted and left comments for my entry. It was a fairly rushed picture as I didn't plan my time well. Next challenge, I hope to use my "light box" for more even lighting. And, yes, I snacked on lots of Oreos while shooting. :D

Would that just serve to reflect more light onto the subject? I'm building a small wood frame to take product pictures at work and it will have open sides for lighting. I plan to drape white sheets on the sides and top to diffuse light. That setup should eliminate the harsh shadows like the ones found in this picture.

The cookies do not look appealing to me and I think you're lighting is too harsh. Contrast is good.

Good choice using B&W, not sure about the background cloth used. Good white balance, the milk and plate looke nice and white. 8
