Technicals: There is something about the sharpness, and I think it's the tungsten lighting. The problem with using such a warm light (and I know it wasn't your choice) is you are using less of the sensor since red makes up only 1/3rd of the pixels. Anyways, there is a sharpness quality to this picture that lets it down somewhat. Composition is just fine, even with the extreme landscape crop.
The feel: You lose some intimacy with the tiger's right eye being in shadow. Fill flash or waiting for a different moment are your only options there.
The game: Tigers seem to be a good subject on DPC. I'd head back to get this guy again later if you can. |

I saw you post this in Dr.Achoo's thread.
I gave you a 4 for this one. Why?
first of all because of the crop. it's too narrow on the short side. this makes me think there was a lot of uninteresting stuff going on around it and you just cut out the best part. but with doing that you cut of his ears, paws, basically the whole body. If you want to get an extreme close up to fill the frame, make sure it's sharp enough to crop it all the way to the face. now it looks like you had to do some pretty extensive PP for it too look acceptable.
the partial desat...i really don't like it.
having taken everything in consideration, this photo looks like a shot that you have tried to polish up in PP but it just didn't work.
personally I would've chucked it away.
so, there you have my honest opinion as to why I gave this a 4. |

Since all my photo equipment was stolen and I am camera-less, I will spend time now voting...
