Greetings from the Critique Club!

I concur with all of the positive statements below!

When I look at this image, my eyes are taken first to the wrench itself--which is what you want! It is placed at a diagonal, which creates some strong, dramatic lines that keep my interest. The background pops in next, and I enjoy the 3-D feel it gives to the image. The lighting here is gentle and pleasant, and does not create any harsh highlights. I also enjoy the visual clarity of the photo, which seems appropriate to me.

Some below noted that the background distracts attention from the wrench, and this may be true to some extent, but I still like it. Perhaps there is a way to have the wrench in focus, but the background slightly out of focus? Just something to experiment with.

This is a fine photo! To improve it, I'm not sure . . . perhaps some philosophical questions might help, if you will allow me to be nit-picky. What do you want us to feel about this wrench? This photo really shows off your photographic skill--now you might want to think about how your audience should react to it? Should we love it? hate it? admire it's usefulness? A wrench is a wrench until you communicate something about it that surprises me or that I react to emotionally. You may be able to make us react more strongly by your lighting, point of view, context, etc. (Sorry for waxing metaphysical on you!).

Very nice photo! Keep up the good work!

David

Nice study though found metallic background distracts attention from the metallic texture of spanner.

nice background, a relief from so many plain whites; cropped a bit to tight on top and left, title is a plus

You're probably going to get a lot of heat for the background, but I like it. Great focus on the wrench, too. Unfortunately, the image doesn't hold my attention very long. No dynamic tension for instance.

this simple object study is made more interesting by the textured background you chose.
