This will probably be slain in the challenge for being off-brief, but I think that a clear surface in an urban area almost inevitably has an intimate relationship with local graffiti artists.

It's a partnership that has been with us since man first learned to scrawl images of bison on cave walls.

I liked the uplifting, fluid quality the sunlight had on this potentially bland, cold scene.

i love this! such a mundane subject yet you've really captured some depth to the interaction of light, shadow, texture..

This is gorgeous, so simple and soft, such a nice twist on the typical urban photograph...the light and shadow are just so serene..lovely.

This image trancends the challenge. The canvas is alive.

Can`t believe where this finished..I fully expected to see it ahead of mine.

The scoring seems to have taken a funny turn of late.

Take heart from the quality of the people that bothered to comment, Jon; and thanks from me for putting up something more intersting than the run-of-the-mill. I was one of the 7's, but I scored nothing higher in this challenge. Good to see challenging stuff.

Despite the the very tight crop near the road sign (especially above it), its inclusion adds both dimension and balance to this soft and partly sensual chiaroscuro. A little sidelight on part of the sign would have been delightful as well. An array of shapes, tones, textures and lines juxtaposed with graffiti without any sense of clutter!

One of the most satisfying and creative images in this challenge, IMO.

Very nice; I really like this kind of "found" shot, lifting the mundane into something altogether different. I would almost prefer it without the concreteness of the sign, but that's a personal thing, I think.

This would have been great for road signs! Nice composition.

You've used the light as a graphic element - that's both daring and artistic. Good luck in the challenge. I'll give a 6 because, although I'm not overly fond of this image, you deserve it.
