 This shot was more or less an accident...I was trying to get a picture of Clay playing, and he was not very happy with me. I kept asking him to turn around and he finally did, with these sticks in his hands, as if to tell me to "stay back." Of course, he finally gave in and I took a lot of pictures. When I was going through them this morning, I saw this one and it really kind of broke my heart, and I waxed philosophical for a moment...the way (in many cultures) children are not supposed to talk unless asked, and how children are supposed to be "in their place" instead of allowed to act like kids. Perhaps I'm the only one who was raised like that, and I surely don't believe it today (spend five minutes with my boys and they'll have you feeling like a kid again for sure). Perhaps I'm hormonal or just plain weird. :)

Wonderfully shot. I like how his face and eyes are most prominent even though they are less in focus.

A very nice 'accident' :) And you are not the only one raised in a "don't speak unless spoken to" kind of atmosphere. ...I will say no more. :)

A superb image. crispness where it's needed, and the heart in the blur. well done. i would only like a little more contrast, especially on the sticks.

Oh my, this is simply fabulous! I love the hands holding the sticks, then add to that the way the sticks perfectly frame his eyes, which look very serious indeed! The DOF is wonderful, your choice of tonality excellent. Such a fortuitous accident!!

Terrific DOF. This is a classic - boy with his sticks. Nice tonal range, with great lighting and bokeh. This has great symbolism. (I'm commenting before I read your description)

This is awesome! And this is a tribute to the fact that your children are the lucky recipients of all you've been through that has helped to make you the kind of wonderful mom you are.
