Took this on a day trip to the mountains and being in the mood I was in some people suggested the possibility of taking "darker" so to speak photos, so being a huge Edgar Allen Poe fan I instantly thought of his poem "The Raven", with this raven sitting on this old tree that had fallen over and adjusted the colours to where pretty much by accident got some of the colours in the roots to come out as if it were blood which IMO added to the effect. And punched up the contrast to give it a more sinister look.

I like the texture in this photo. And the red in the wood looks like blood.. even more Poe-like. Nice shot. |

I really love the bird, but with the busy aspect of the old gnarled tree, he just sort of blends in. I wonder if a black and white with some dodge and burn would help. The red on the tree really is distracting. Love the texture and detail of the bird though. |
