This photo looks very artistic. The subtle colours in the background create very peaceful feeling in contrast to the prickly texture of the plant. Very beautiful close up photo. This should have really placed higher. |

So you were actually painting with backlight from the computer as well as the flashlight! Very good idea. Keep up the good - and original - work. |

Haunting image, nicely composed. Perhaps a little lighter at the bottom right would pull your subject out of the background. |

THe lghiting and the colors in this are very well done, extremely well done I might say. I like the plant form against the background very much! Composition is just a little weak, I think. The center of the plant is dead center of the frame and should have been a bit to the (my) right. Other than that excellent! |

I think this would have been better in National Geographic. |

Not sure if I like the background. I do however like the seed/pod. The composition and light is very nice. |

Very nice, I love the reflection of colors on the background. Only thing is, it seems a tiny bit washed out, unless that's the effect you were going for. Very Pretty and an interesting subject. Nice textures. |

A fine picture - love the background it really sets off the subject. It is unusual to get a blue otr partly blue background to work with a "natural subject" (except a person). However I will copy some text that I have added to a couple of other entries.
My only concern is, as you may have guessed from the amount of discussion on the forum re "painting with light" is whether it is painting with light.
Having been lucky enough to judge what is now a few hundred competitions in the last 30 years I feel I should say the first thing that happens is that they are sorted and any that do not immediatly seem to fit the category are dumped (hard but a fact). This is why so many competitions also run an "open category". Your picture, as impressive as it is, would, I feel have been rejected at this stage. "Painting with Light" has a fairly tight definition in photography but still allows a lot of lattitude for creativity.
I suspect that your scores may not reflect what the picture is worth which is a great shame. I believe if I was judging in another category I would have gone for a 9 .
I do hope you understand my reasons for marking it down
David

Love this shot. It almost looks more like a painting. I love the colors and the "texture" of the whole composition. High marks from me. |

Very interesting. Looks painting-like. Way to attack the challenge. |
