Earplugs while driving for hours with two screaming kids in the backseat: Priceless

The big trip started today and we're almost at our destination of Mackinaw City, MI.

After getting off the main highway we saw some interesting things:

No speed limit signs for a good 25 miles or so, but I took it slow to avoid meeting Andy Griffith's evil
twin.
Beef Jerky billboards
A boat on side of road with big, handwritten sign "For Cell"
A small town where everyone is at the ice cream place. It looked like the whole town was there except for the guy at McDonalds.
People wear their cowboy hats to McDonalds.
The cowboy at McDonalds was very friendly.
A collapsed barn that had a "self storage" sign on it.
A hotel that not only advertised color TV and HBO, but also that they have phones
And it's 12:20AM and my 3 year old still won't go to sleep. Hopefully tomorrow night at the campfire (and a beer or 10) I'll think it's all worth it.

And yes, I really used the earplugs.

lol I love the cowboy at McD's part - sounds like an interesting story there.

Earplugs... hmmm... and people keep telling us to buy a DVD player for the car.

BTW - soft instrumental music does wonders for putting them to sleep lol.

I'm working backwards through photos, so I'm reading your comments out of order. I hope you're having a good vacation. Sounds like you saw a lot of great subjects for Americana photos. I thought this was a jumprope!

Wonderful Ken. I felt like I was right there with you while you were highlighting your day.Takes me back a few years but yeah... that's it. However, I wish I had thought of the earplugs.

A friend put it to me this way...when you have kids it's not a vacation, it's a trip. Trips can be fun, but when you come home from a trip, you feel like you need a vacation.

Nice shot.

LOL, GREAT story! There for a minute I thought the earplugs were for the NASCAR race at Pocono this past weekend! haha, kids vs. cars going 200 mph, pretty close match I do believe.
Hope you enjoyed the rest of the trip & had a beer or 3 at least for a little R&R ;)

I love kids - even the 3 year olds. I can sooooo relate. Although, I have never used earplugs. Nice image and nice "blog".
