I went out to take a shot of yet another statue (see.. told you there was a bunch of them around here) and while I was taking them, this kid was making sure he was in every shot. In the end, I just gave up, and decided that I may as well try and make use of him.

The statue shows that there is a slightly dark side here... This is Fiere Margriet who, legend says, was raped and murdered, then the bandits threw her in the river to get rid of the evidence. However, not only did Magriet not sink.. she actually floated in the air just above the water. Not sure if it shows up too well here, but this is actually a fountain, water pouring our across the rock slab

Rotated and cropped, otherwise as shot

That's too funny -- what a little ham! It almost looks like he's reaching out to spin the table.

EDIT: Oh, I just read the story. :-(
I don't think I've ever heard before of a statue about a rape victim.

Nice notes, and an interesting shot with that nervy kid in juxtaposed with the statue and its story.

an interesting story and an unusual photograph considering the angle !! .. there's quite a contradiction in feel with that little kid all smiley and cute and a bit of a pest and then the statue with its sad and painful story .. you could'v cropped him out then you could have had a shot with a bit'v humour and a shot with a more dark and atmosperic feel .. either way its a great shot .. :)

What a haunting story and sculpture. I like your perspective, underscoring the torture she had to go through. The kid - well. I suppose it couldn't be helped. lol!
