Just to be contrary, I added this giant border so the crop would be square...
What you see is Young Arts Arizona's kids' gallery. This is the non-profit where I'm the development director (sounds fancier than it is. About 40 hours a month).
All of the kids' exhibits start in our gallery and then rotate out to other public venues and are generally shown for a year in the community. So the issues of the children who created the art will be brought into the community's awareness - such as kids with cancer, autism, diabetes, arthritis; developmentally disabled kids, poor kids, orphans, abused children, juvenile detainees, etc.
The purpose of exhibiting their artwork is for them to feel better about themselves and thus deal with their disadvantages in a more positive way.
The art is solicited from schools and agencies that serve at-risk children and youth. However, we - Young Arts - are incorporating more direct art programs in our agenda, usually in collaboration with a local artist who acts as a teacher/facilitator.
I get carried away... anyway you get the idea.
The gallery - Purple Space - has a cement floor with the logo written on it, and brick walls - except for one purple wall. It's very industrial and cool looking. Normally we don't have art on the floor, but there's an extra exhibit that hasn't been hung yet. |

Wow this sounds like a fantastic project, I do a lot of work in the UK about using art and culture as a catalyst for regeneration and how communities can be engaged by art and also how it can help excluded kids to learn and also provide a way for people to express themselves
(I am having to fight to stop myself asking you about funding streams etc)
Looks like a wonderful place to display the work
Nice shot |

Thanks for sharing. I'm glad the kids have a place to hang their work that looks like it was designed for that purpose, not an afterthought. |

Really nice photo -- sometimes the standard square crop is just too destructive. I love what you're doing with the kids art. |

Very nice! When I was in Russia, I visited one of their "juvenile halls" and the artwork that some of them produced still gives me chills when I see it or think about it. Absolutely incredible! Kudos to you and the organization for giving them an "out" |
