Focus - first of all this is a lovely picture. I scored it a 9 - the colours and interest struck me about it. I believe, though, that you've fallen into the subjectivity trap. I mean that because you know what the picture is of you can easily discern what is what. Personally I had to work fairly hard to figure out what was what in your picture. I enjoyed the journey and I love that your negative space is as colourful as your positive space. But aparrently not everyone enjoys or even undertakes that journey. As photoraphers I think we need to either accept that many people will not understand our shot or else add extra visual clues about what is what. I had the same problem with my own "Caught Napping" shot - //www.dpchallenge.com/image.asp?IMAGE_ID=5118 |

Yours was the first picture I looked for to see how it had rated. I can't believe that just a beautiful picture was overlooked. |

"Negative Space," as I understood it and as discussed in several forums here, is the space where the subject is not. We also discussed that negative space is not necessarily blank space. The subject is readily discernable and removeable from this picture. That it was colorful seems have rated this low. I am very appreciative that a number of you enjoyed the picture anyway.
Just in case there is any question, I am not the least bit hurt or upset. I cannot begin to say how much I have learned by being an active member. Not only about photography, but about myself and how others perceive my work. Thank you all for your feedback. |

Nice colors. You seem to have an interpretation of negative space i have not seen. I am interesting in hearing about it. 5 -- karmat |

I wish there was more differentiation between foreground and background, either in tonal values or focus or both. |

I like the colors in this one. The front purple leave is a little out of focus. The colors are way good. 5 |

Very nice shot but sorry I do not see the challenge here ... an other week 7, this week 4. But I like the colors a lot .. I do not usually like flower pictures because they are too 'conventional' to me .. but I like this one a lot. Lionel |

Beautiful. Would score highly with me in another challenge. This time, not so, because it doesn't have any negative space for me (under my own definition, I appreciate your mileage may vary;) 5, Kavey |

i'm sorry, but i don't see this as a negative space picture, there's entirely too much going on throughout the whole photo. as for the photo itself, i love the colors, it's borderline abstract, but you can recognize it. very nice. i would probably try and crop out the bud at the top right, and (if that's possible w/out loosing too much of the photo) the purple leaf at the bottom right. definitely the bud though. -- gr8photos. |
