When I run I'm always looking for something interesting to shoot. I've seen these little ferns for quite a while and am fascinated how they unfurl. So after my run I got camera and walked back in to where I saw some ferns.

This little fly was waiting for me and I do mean little; he was about half the size of a regular housefly. He was the perfect model and barely moved while I took about 60 shots. Most are blurry or focus isn't on the fly - it's really hard to shoot at 200mm from about 3 feet away and a light breeze. I think only 3 had the eyes in focus - only 5%.

I didn't do much pp, rotated, cropped, lots of NI on background (less on fern and fly), levels, a big of dodging on fly, and cloned a few really bright spots on fern. OK, I guess that sounds like a lot but most time was spent choosing picture and getting the NI right.

Wow, his eyes look square, I've never seen that, he is a tiny little guy. Great shot! (sounds like you worked hard to get the perfect one).

That fly is real? I would have guessed it was some sort of plastic model (though the legs are undeniably real looking). Great macro.

This was worth the virtual film spent. A really great shot.
So am I the only one who sees the face of a stodgy old man wearing big red goggles? A cool looking little guy.

My goodness - this is really excellent. At first I didn't see the fly. It just looked like a reddish thing at the tip of the fern, but upon closer look, I saw it. Wonderful!! Great job!

Excellent focus. Great job for being 3 feet away.

That is one seriously creepy looking bug and the eyes are HUGE. And it almost looks like he is smiling at you. The color is great and I love the diagonal as well.
