Here in Phoenix, the Monsoon season has arrived. That means, the wind has turned and we are now getting winds from the north. Unlike India, we do not get a lot of rain from that directional wind change, because we are completely landlocked, whereas India is surrounded by water.

AAAanyway... the result is a drop in temperatures (from 112/113/114/115F to 103ish) and daily storms of some sort. Often they don't have rain with them, but just dust. In any case, we get clouds, which is very exciting - after weeks of no clouds whatsoever.

This morning I woke up at 6 AM and looked out of my window and saw this. Cosima and I hurried to the balcony, camera in paw, and we took photos of the beautiful light. I can assure you, it was much more beautiful than the photo can depict. And the full size image was much more impressive than the square crop.

The air is actually tolerable in the mornings - very exciting.

In the photo you see North Mountain, which is one of five mountain preserves within the city of Phoenix. I live right on the mountain, only separated by a retainer wall. I tried photographing some desert quail who were making their rounds, but like all desert animals, they blend in completely. Without a powerful zoom lens I wouldn't be able to capture them well. And I will spare you the blurry mess I did capture.

Now it's afternoon, the heat has risen, the A/C is running and I just woke up from a good nap!

Nice colors, I like how the tree limbs sort of make a border on the right side.

What a view from your balcony! The pattern in the clouds plays off well against the detail in the leaves.

You know what really caught my eye were the clouds. They looked like they were painted in the sky with a roller brush. That is beautiful! Gorgeous sight for that early in the morning lol.

One our honeymoon, we flew into Phoenix and drove up to the Grand Canyon. It rained the entire way. I was so perplexed; I didn't know it could rain that much there. :) I'm assuming your "monsoon season" is the reason. ?

Great shot.

115? That's crazy it gets so hot there. We are having a strange summer here because the temp hasn't passed 95 yet (though I don't think we ever get as high temps as you).

Alicia, I can see that big old "S" for Sunnyslope out there (th whiterocks... an I corect?). Hey, I used to live near Glendale & Central for about 20 years of my life, growing up. I loved the desert. Totally homesick seeing this type of photo. The city got a little too big for me:)

Great photo!

I almost threw up when I read your temp "decrease". YUCK! I was there in March and swear, it about killed me. I feel the pain. Love this image, beautiful capture of the sky. Lovely.

Beautiful sky Alicia. I can imagine that the cooler mornings and the appearance of clouds is a real treat this time of year.

Well the photo is outstanding so if the real thing is much better I would love to see it. Great cloud formation and their white tinged greyness really sets of the blue of the sky.

What a great thing to wake up to and what a super photo to start your day with

Tempreture dropped to 103.....hahahaha oooooo chilly!!!!
