Do you never receive a helpful comment?

Just toss this comment on the top of your already high pile of praise. Great concept, execution and photographers talent. This is a beautiful, timely tribute. Those few who feel you shouldn't have "used" 9/11 only need to go into the grocery store to see the commercialization of the 9/11 tragedy -- bouquet after bouquet of red white & blue carnations, red, white & blue roses with glitter -- red, white and blue cookies! You'd think it was the 4th of July! Your tribute was very reverent and I applaud you - there's no comparison.

I wanted to thank everyone for the all the comments! To those who said landscape would be better, I agree....it's just that I had this reflection thing going so I didn't do any landscape takes. Good luck to everyone in the "negative" challenge! Jakob

Very creative use of available medium to convey your message. Perhaps, just this week, we should be allowed to vote 11...
You could use a similar idea for this coming week's challenge too.

Nice metaphor

It's great to see a 911 shot which does relate to the challenge. A beautiful and simple idea. I'd like this much more in landscape to give space to the "fallen towers" strips of peel.

Wow! Perhaps some will feel that this takes advantage of an emotionally charged commemoration. But as far as I'm concerned, there's no escaping that the composition, image quality and rich metaphor are stunning. Very well done. (10) --JPerez

This is one of the best tributes I have seen. Wonderful photo, great execution!
09/11/2002 01:23:00 PM
Very original. Nice background.
09/11/2002 11:57:00 AM
Very creative.. I could see this as a Apple Computer advertisement/tribute. Less is more! I like the reflection and lighting.. the image is crisp (as the apple is too I'm sure) ;) Good job. - jenguin

Really great work. I admit, at first I was a little put off at this idea, but all in all it is really wonderful work. The execution is great. Did you happen to achieve this within a few shots or did you go thru many apples? - noticing that the inside of the apple is not brown :-) I also like the ever so light shadow/reflection. Excellent white background. Excellent work 10

Okay, I knew this one was coming and I've had a corner of my mind on composing my comment ever since I saw the thumbnail. Generally, I am against using the tragedy of others as an opportunity for gain (say by submitting it to a photo contest to pull on the heartstrings of viewers and receive a higher score).

That said, this photo is not only technically very well done, but the symbolism is VERY STRONG; down to the collapsed peels, still lingering, still reminding. Even the shadow contributes. NY: a shadow of its former self.

So in the end, I decided to view this photo as a tribute rather than a manipulative go at a better score, but that inclination lingers in me, keeping me from scoring you TOO highly.

I hope my honesty here is taken as it's meant: to enlighten you to the reaction of a viewer. I mean no name-calling in this post. 7, just-married

This is definitely the sort of image that will do very well in DPChallenge. I like it for the color, the concept, the reflection. 7 sjgleah

I have to appologize. Every time I see something like this I get angry. Not your fault at all. I had a friend working on the 93rd floor of WTC1 when it was struck by the plane on the 90th floor, so please don't get upset if I don't get all excited about this photo. I'm not letting that affect my rating however, this is technically well done. The angle and framing are good, and the focus and clarity are also good. Lighting fits the photo perfectly. I like how the white background is broken by the reflection of the apple. Overall nice photo. Good luck in the challenge. ~Hbunch7187~

you should sell this pic
09/10/2002 10:40:00 AM
I liked this shot. Good timing for this week. It would have been cool if you'd have done some sort of blue background. Wow, my wife just gave me some insite on this shot and I like it better now.
09/10/2002 09:47:00 AM
Very clever idea!
09/10/2002 09:44:00 AM
Very clever. I might have preferred this shot framed landscape.

Oh wow, what a great and creative idea! Wonderful job. 10 Kaz

i usually don't like the play on my emotions of incorporating 9/11 in photos, but you have done a very good job with it, and it fits right into the challenge. very creative. the only thing that i would suggest doing differently is excluding the reflection (which i know you put in deliberately) and having lots of negative space ... i know it's next week's challenge, but i think that would've worked well here. did you try this as a landscape format with negative space? -- gr8photos (7).
09/09/2002 02:55:00 PM
Very cool... and timely. Well done all around. I'm already curious to see how many anti-American comments you get... but you'll get a 10 from me.
09/09/2002 11:00:00 AM
How approapriate for this week, as well. Emotions aside, this is a very well composed picture, and I like the reflection at the bottom. I wish the apple were a touch brighter, though I'm not sure how to tell you to do that. karmat
09/09/2002 08:35:00 AM
Cool idea. I'm sure this one will take some bashing but I like it. A good week for it as well.
09/09/2002 08:11:00 AM
How cool is this??? 10
09/09/2002 08:03:00 AM
Wow... very moving... well done... there just isn't more that can be said about this.... I give you a 10! :o)~
09/09/2002 07:30:00 AM
very clever!
09/09/2002 06:02:00 AM
Excellent!! I speaks for itself. Really no need for words.
09/09/2002 05:59:00 AM
This is a technically great photo. Composition, lighting, reflection are awesome. However, I wish you had left the apple intact. Though you probably meant this as a tribute, I find the carving of the twin towers to be in poor taste. Would have been a 9 w/o carving...had it no technical merit, I would vote it a 1. 5 Lisa
09/09/2002 01:25:00 AM
Superb idea and execution. No faults. 10 - floyd
09/08/2002 08:28:00 PM
Being from NY this photo certainly strikes something with me...I can't put it in words, as I am sure many others have similar feelings. Simply put, this photo is a 10. I think it's worthy of being in a museum or in a memorial. Very touching image....
