First Impression - the most important one:
hmmm- The lighting is indeed a bit flat... nice composition, There is nothing about it that really makes me want to stare at the picture longer. (you know how great pictures just want to make you keep on looking!)
Composition:
I like you composition, The boots layout, and position in frame are great.
Subject:
I like how the shoelaces are untied, and you have an old set of boots it definitely adds character to the picture.
Technical (Colour, focus, and light):
This is where the picture is lacking, Lighting. The focus is good and I like how you have chosen B&W, but the lighting either you chose or was all that was available, really flattens the pictures and takes away some much of the character that the old boots and the B&W add. There needs to be strong shadows, and good highlights. Also a darker background, probably best achieved by lighting.
Artistic:
This side is also strong. I like the idea.
To grow its vote?:
Mainly the lighting, after you have tried that you could see where to go from their.
Summary:
Nice picture, strong character, but weak lighting. Personally I always thought still life was done with studio lighting. (Traditionally it is, but I guess it doesn't have to be.)
Hey its at least above your average. Keep that up youâll be on your way to a ribbon. Your picture âthe strikeâ is excellent!
Happy shooting, CBoydrun
