Driving back from lunch I saw a helecopter over the beach and thought I had stumbled across an actual rescue. Turned out it was a training excercise - which still was pretty interesting. This was one of those situations where I got a half dozen good shots, but none was exactly what I would have liked. I picked this one because it had a quality that seems common to me in NG pictures - context. I would have liked to have gotten the spectators while the helecopter was pulling someone else, but I missed that one.

Not too much editing on this shot. Mostly the basics of crop, levels, saturation and some selective color on the whole shot, plus selective color adjustment on the sky with a mask. Sharpened, resized, sharpened. Oh, and I ran it through Neat Image both before and after - the sky in shots like this tends to have lots of noise from my camera.

Good subject matter but this picture is plagued by either poor focusing or compression. And I might have cropped a bit more off the bottom.

If the focus were a bit better I could definetly see this in a NG article.

Not a lot here to hold our interest.

Great idea here. Would like to see more of the rescue training (assume it's the spec lower center in the water w/ the helicoper) People watching/waiting don't bring the drama that the rescuing would.
