Field bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis) is the standard common name, but is also known as creeping Jenny.

Native to Europe, bindweed is believed to have been first introduced into the United States in the late 19th century in wheat arriving from Turkey. It is now a widespread and serious weed problem in all parts of the United States, except the southeastern states. In fact, the noxious weed department in the county where I grew up is even called the "bindweed department".

This is a difficult plant to eradicate. Seeds remain viable for up to 50 years, and the extensive root system can go ten feet down into the soil.

Vines grow along the surface of the ground and can climb, as shown in this photo.

Love the hugging of the stem here. And I also agree that the blooms at the bottom is a very unique addition. Nice job, I think I like them down there and then the braiding of the vine leads the eyes right up.

Like the comp and the BG. Interesting having the little blooms so low in the image. Makes it look taller than it is.

I like the background and the way the vine is climbing is lovely. I have this insidious weed in my yard too! Haven't figured out a way to eradicate it yet!

such a pretty pest! I also like a lot the vining away form the viewer perspective here.

I like the feeling of the vine moving away from the viewer. Its a pretty little creeper but I have spent a a lot oF time and energy trying to get it out of every garden plot I've rented in the past 10 years.

Was it brought over on purpose like dandelions or just an accidental traveler?

Composition is strange... I probably like it, but I'm not sure :-)

Good shot. You're right, lovely (but not too good). Do you teach botany? Your information is very good, thank you! I like the way the image almost looks braided, the shadows and the stick; and then the lovely curving around the stick.
