Greetings from the Critique Club:
The initial impression is very strong, a well-titled, and well-realized image. The highway is crunching the cottage below and the eye can rest sadly on the overpass support and the wonderful textures of the cottage. The shapes and textures in the image are satisfying and the leading lines from the wall, overpass support, and roofline are interesting. I wonder if it isn't a bit oversharpened but that is more a matter of individual taste. I think that when one thinks of NG one thinks color, but there are always images in black and white that accompany any story. It is an image that contains many stories to keep a viewer satisfied and that it a successful image. Thanks for the opportunity to spend some time with it. |

When I think NG, I think of vibrant color. In spite of that, this is a wonderful shot. Good exposure and composition. Very nice idea, executed perfectly. |

This is a very marketable shot. Excellent viewpoint, clarity and texture - if a little over-sharp perhaps. |

Beautiful contrast and tones in this shot. You can almost feel the textures represented. I like how the diagonal of the bridge overhead and the wall takes takes your eyes toward the white house. |

Horribly familiar, but I can't place it. Fabulous juxtaposition, great message, ideal for the challenge. Can't help but wonder if compositionally you could have given the impression of the new road dominating the house a bit more had you shot from a lower angle - perhaps it's just the white of the house, but it doesn't seeem over-shadowed by the bridge enough ... but also, perhaps there's a message of surviving adversity here too. 9 |

Great shot! The composition and cropping (if any) are wonderful and the tones and contrast excellent! You really get a "crowding in" feeling here without the image being too busy. Fits the challenge theme very well. |

I really love the use of duotones. I think it was a fantastic choice that gives to your image more interest. |

this is gorgeous. the range of tones, the use of black and white, the exposure to create such tones... wonderful! plus, there is a multitude of stories here... besides the obvious one. is that a realy bird on the wall to the far right, or part of the stone? I think this is wonderful. |

The choice of B&W is perfect. Very well done. Like the brightness of the whites and darkness of the blacks. Good tones! |

Great title, nice photojournalistic quality, good use of b&w (glad I don't have to listen to that much highway noise!) tells a story. Well done |

very nice use of black and white. Textures remained in teh white building mean great exposure. I think the sky could have done with a small burn here and there - or a red filter. |
