lol..now my dearest Brad, IF you can pull off my butterfly as not only a candid but a portrait too, well you'll have enough "wool-pullin" to be a sheep on farm with my goats...soooooooooooo your 'caballero' is not only a cowboy but also the 'proof in the pudding'...making him a delectible save a horse option? (hoping you've heard the country song)
anywho...I'd love to get the clarity and sharpness you have achieved in this photo...great image |

Not sure it really proves anything other than a candid shot doesn't always look like a candid shot. If you told me you were three feet from this guy shooting with an 85mm and telling him 'look over there', I would have bouht it was a regular portrait session.
I think the other side of the argument in that thread was more of is a telephoto shot of someone buying an ice cream cone down the block a portrait? At least tht was my take.
Anyway, hell of a shot. Was one of my favs in the challenge. |

Brad, I really like this shot and gave it an 8 during voting because it seemed like the DOF was achieved with gausian blur rather than with the camera. Still I like the effect and use that a lot myself on candid portraits.
I like the lighting, focus, tone, composition, strong subject with something going on, and the shadow from the hat. If anyone objects to the shadow on his eyes, they miss the point of why caballeros wear wide-brimmed hats. Congratulations on a marvelous shot. |

The hat brim shadow is going to be divisive, I suspect. I kind of like it, though. Gives a hint of Zorro about the whole photo. Great sharpness of focus, good textures. |

Excellent sharp portrait against an unsharp background. Great with the shadow cast on his face by the rim of his hat. |

Love the sepia tone. This is a very nice portrait. There is just enough detail in the shadows to see the catch light in the eyes. Textures, everywhere. Love it! And yet, very classic - simple. Your detail is wonderful and a very nice bokeh as well! Great job. |

Excellent. Love how the brim of the hat drops that shadow just below the eyes. Perfect focus, perfect exposure, great details throughout the face. |

the thing that caught my eye first off is the intense look in his eyes and then the detail in your photograph. Well done IMHO. |
