I stopped at a forest preserve in Calumet City IL to try some IR pictures by the small lake. They didn't turn out so on my way back to the parking lot I got out the 10-20mm and took a few quick shots. I just couldn't do the square crop on this one. I have one with the foreground more in focus but the composition isn't as good. That's what happens when you're in a hurry.

There's a few trails here, a nature center with snakes & turtle & fish, a garden, a few birds, and some old buildings where they do reenactments.

When I was young we'd come here and walk around and check out the nature center. Even in high school and college I would sometimes come here to walk and reflect. These days I occasionally go at lunch, usually to take pictures.

The nature center has a fancy weather station that charts temperature, humidity, etc. I remember even when I was very young being fascinated by the charting, the dials, the windspeed changing in real time, etc. Even then I was already being pulling towards things technical and analytical. Besides choosing science as a career, I'm still fascinated by the weather and am a trained weather spotter.

What a pretty field, I wish I had somewhere this serene to eat lunch in. The colors are stunning!

ooh since you are a trained weather spotter we can expect to see some storm pics during the 50 days, right?

were you using a polarizer filter of some kind? I see some kind of gradient in the sky.

the flowers in the foreground add interest to the picture.

I understand about going on those nature walks as being good places to reflect. I think the quiet and lack of distractions is what pulls you in.

Nice pic!

Wow, for a 'rushed' shot it looks pretty good to me. The area seems wonderful and the blog helped bring it to life

Great colours

I'm very drawn to this image, I'd sure like to be hiking there now :-) You've got it all in this image, colorful flowers, lush trees, and a big blue sky... just gorgeous!
I would like the weather station at the nature center too; as an astronomer I'm always concerned with the weather!

I like how the trees seem to be forming a "V" with another tree in the center. The flowers in the foreground are good.

A very pretty picture , love the balance between the amount of blue in the sky, and the area covered by flowers. But I have to say it's the phrase "trained weather spotter" that makes it for me... I just have an image of you popping your head out of a window in a ninja style.. and pronouncing "yes... still dry!"

I was beginning to forget what blue sky looked like. I haven't seen it for quite a few days now. Lovely weather you had - I can just imagine that there were a lot of little critters among the flowrers to do macro shots of ;-Þ
