Challenge: Missing Link (Advanced Editing V)
Camera: Nikon D70s
Lens: Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II
Location: Carrizo Plains, California
Date: Jul 10, 2007
Aperture: f/4.5
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/1600
Galleries: Black and White, Rural
Date Uploaded: Jul 10, 2007

This was taken near Carrizo Plains National Monument in California Valley. It is an extremely desolate place. I thought about the topic of missing link and there seemed to be a missing link between why these people lived here to begin with and why they are gone now.

Cropped, converted to B&W, levels, in Aperture, then exported to CS2 for dodge and burn and resize.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Excellent shot. Not a lot to really remark on to improve it. Playing with clouds, as suggested in one comment, might have improved the look of the clouds but I don't think it would discernibly change the overall impact of the picture.

Judging from some of the comments it would seem some believed the link to the challenge was a bit weak. I disagree myself but I can see where they are coming from. I think the biggest difference between your image and the shot that got third is the third place shot bopped the voter over the head with its relation to the challenge. Your shot, photographically, I would say is at least on par with it. At least in my opinion anyways...

Wow, great photo but I feel it is not a strong concept for missing Link. The texture of this photo though is really insane, everything from soft plushy clouds to the splintery wood and jagged ground. Great shot-wrong category.

Good photograph, but comes real close to pushing the envelope for meeting the challenge.

This is a great looking location and you had a very cooperative sky to work with. While I like this shot I wish you had done a bit more to really make those clouds work for you. Good luck in the challenge.
