One of my top picks for the challenge (gave it a 9). The idea is great, but I think the relative lack of appropriate emotion was a weak link. Maybe if the little girl was sneering at a depressed woman, or if the girl was heading out the door on a beautiful day while the woman is chained to a desk?

This is such a creative image. The connection between the balloon and the black ball on the chain is what really impresses me. I gave it a 9 instead of a 10 because of a couple of minor technical issues, namely the jaggies on the edge of the woman's jacket (possibly due to resizing?) and the slight tilt/distortion of the scene. Still, I think it should have been in the top ten. Very well done.

The parallele deep blackness of the child's balloon and the ball and chain perhaps make a connection you didn't intend: at least, I can't imagine a slightly soft focus image here genuinely meaning to attest to some form of post-natal depression, or making some comment on motherhood's restrictions on career. There's something, in the nolder woman's look, that is also quite threatening; all in all, quite a sinister image, really.

That's a hard choice, isn't it? Like the use of the black balloon.

A colored ballon would of complement better the photo... but very nice idea!

An absolutely super concept capturing wonderful expressions and employing a really fantastic use of black and white. The weakness in the shot is the jpeg - there is a fair amount of noise and, more seriously, jaggies (the coat is the prime example with that contrast). I'd think about using another program to save your jpegs. But I'm voting high for the great concept and well-executed shot.

I have no idea how others will rate this, but I think this is hysterically funny! Those shoes but the little Sweetie in the forefront of fashion! Damn. There go my chances....

Very creative idea!! Love this one, yet it's so sad. Well executed! Nice lighting and detail, too.

Oh, you so nailed this. What a struggle of ideals that will strike a chord with many. It certainly has with me. Love that you've tied in the colour of the balloon with the ball and chain. Wait.... what on earth are you doing with a ball and chain??? ;)
