Asteraceae:
spotted knapweed (Centaurea maculosa)
invasive pest
Similar in appearance & probably related to Bachelor Buttons, however not cultivated. This might be found in roadside ditches or next to the telephone poles in Walmart parking lots.

Your comments made me laugh, so tell me, did you find this in a Walmart parking lot ??? It's funny with this challenge, some of the interesting things we're learning about weeds and their beauty. This is a lovely capture, focus is just perfect and colors are right on. Lighting is wonderful.

I like your composition - good lighting and the buds in the background really give the viewer a good idea of the plant shape.

Enjoyed reading your information, too. We don't have this species in Kansas (evidently a good thing). I found out that 1 plant can produce up to 50,000 seeds/year!

Love the "pop" and the lighting.

really really nice! i love the color

you know, this looks suspiciously similar to what I am calling Bachelor Buttons...but I don't think of that as a profliferative pest..hmm

I like the shadows crossing in amoung the petals. Adds lots of texture.

Is it prickly on the stem-invasive pest AKA weed ! Nice image, very sharp on the flower and the buds in BG put it in a natural setting .
