the story >

this was taken on saturday afternoon while i was treating my wine yard, while i was walking trough i saw something moving behind the leaves and i saw this nest with 4 blackbirds, i immediately stopped with treatment because i'm sure the spray would probably kill the little birds very quickly.

then i moved the nest to the nearest tree, it was small plum 10 meters away, i took the shot in between the "migration" :-)

next 2 days while i was in my wine yard i checked them and they were fine, i even saw an grown up blackbirds flying away from the plum tree where i left the nest.

5 days later they were dead. i thought i saved them but apparently ... not.

after all this is my best scoring photo for now but since the story is not very happy i don't like the photo at all, it might be photographically good and shoot in right moment and stuff ... but ... you know.

peace,

goran

P.S. print will be available for some symbolic amount, let's say 0.60$ ... so we can take a moment and think about nature and animals which are simply better than we humans are. for sure.

price has risen :-)

Beautiful shot, sad story. Thanks for sharing both.

FWIW, I've read that it's a myth that touching babies makes parents stop feeding them. So you did what could for them.

yes, unfortunately touching the nest or moving it is what killed them ive seen it happen before, after being touched by humans the adults stop feeding them, its strange behavior indeed but at least you can remember the experience with this great shot,i too was hoping to get a similar shot but something else found my little friends before i could get back with my camera...

This is an amazing photograph! I don't really feel that it meets the challenge, so I won't give it a 10, but I am still adding it to my favorites.

awwwww. :) A little more DoF would have gotten another point, but I'm sure it was a tough shot to take before mama returned...
