Greetings from the Critique Club
By Inspzil
Composition - Wonderful macro of this flower. I personally do not see any tie to the challenge whatsoever. I think part of this challenge had to do with dark. This photo could've been shot at noon outside with a black background and no one would know. It's not that its a bad shot, but it just doesn't seem an appropriate subject for the challenge given. As far as the picture goes, I might have considered leaving no background showing at all.
Technical - The focus and color are awesome. The thing that bothers me about this is that it looks so flat. There isn't much depth to it where I think we expect that in a macro this close. My hat's off to you getting this focused this well. It looks like you might have a hot pixel near the middle of the picture. The little white sparkles across the top in the flower are also mildly detracting. It is an unusual perspective with the darker sections of the flower in the foreground and the more brightly lit areas in the background. I wouldn't say its bad altogether, just not what people expect. That can be good too though.
Overall - Nice picture, but not right for this challenge. I think pretty much that explains why it didn't do as well as it could've in a different challenge. Its a good shot. Good luck in future challenges - Bob

Nice composition and the neon blue color is beautiful. But for an after dark shot this is not the first thing that would come to my mind since a shot like this can be done any time of day in a studio setup. I said the same thing to the other flower entry. For photo quality I vote 8. bumped up to 9 |

Speckles at top appear distracting |

I love the blue but it makes the flower look unreal
Not a lot of detail is shown in the flower itself Mabe a little too close for this type of shot |

I would guess this was done with a black light. I like the color, but think there is too much blue and would have preferred more of the black background showing as this adds more interesting contrast. |

The strange neon coloring renders the details of the orchid very flat. Why not try illuminating the flower with different coloured lights or something. Although this has an interesting abstract feel to it, I would rather see the natural beauty of the orchid. |

Very unusual orchid photo. The colors and tones are very lovely, though the tonal range could perhaps be just a tad wider--brighter brights and darker darks (on the flower itself). Very lovely photo! 8 |

Technical: fits the challenge. Exposure lighting composition focus all very good.
Personal: Very nice effect- and I really like the placement of the flower in the frame!
My vote: 7

Maybe just a bit too saturated..? Also the focus is somewhat soft. Your color is pretty and the idea is very good. Maybe you can shoot this again but tone it down a little bit. Good luck in the challenge. |
