Cool, dark and scary shapes. Reminds me of the eggs from Alien. Of course, the tops are open, so this isn't somewhere you want to be!

They are quite symmetric in shape and shiny so I expect they might be metal. I don't see bolt threads inside but my guess is they are some sort of nut or mechanical fastener.
