I'm betting folks wanted more contrast, more sharpness, but the way you've presented this fits your title perfectly. It does indeed seem that the life is fading away, soon to be nothing more than fine white dust.

starfish or sand dollar? Would like a bit more sharpness in the details but still an interesting image.

This image has a subject but could use some sharpness. That's the beauty of Macro Photography to me... being able to see textures that ordinarily unnoticed.

There is another photo in this challenge of a similar item....hole in the middle, veins or branches radiating out and little bumps. I thought it might be a leaf but it's not like any leaf I have seen. Then I thought a sea urchin, but the sea urchins I have seen don't have those branches/veins. Maybe another type of shell? I think it's a good idea for this challenge but your photo looks dull and washed out and not quite in focus. Improve on those things and you'd have a much better photo.

Sand dollar? It'd grab me more if the hole weren't dead center and it were sharper. Also, more contrast would keep my attention more.

A sanddollar? If that is not correct, then I would guess some kind of melon, but I really think it is a sanddollar.

It looks like the underside of a sand dollar? I would have preferred a warmer tone to this image.

is it an orange or grapefruit.. I like the change in coloring.. Really helps to throw us voters off.. That is of course assuming it's not a white object to begin with.. :-)

A sea urchin. Too out of focus and more contrast would have looked better.
