Struck, looking at some of your recent entries, how much negative (sticks) and black space you use, so often in a way I can never come close to. Yet in a 'negative space' themed challenge, you fill all the space with subject and light. Inspired :) |

What a shame this scored so low. I love it - great concept and wonderful B&W processing. |

How cool is this?! It's like his broken down car spilled all his wares onto the ground and they are just waiting for their owner.
To me the negative space is created by the relative uniformity of all of the hats, interrupted only by the guy and his car. |

this shot makes me ask, "what are those hats doing there on the ground, so many of them?" |

A flea-market salesman with hundreds of hats, no customers, and a broken down car. Negative space. Congratulations on the well deserved blue ribbon. |

lol this is an interesting pic. Are these hats for sale or just being aired out? I know I'd be pretty excited to buy a hat fresh from the ground hehe. Very quirky - love it! |

Where is the negative space? It's a nice photograph but not sure it fits the challenge.... |

This shot is too busy for my taste and I don't really see negative space here. |

hands down
this is the best negative space photo I've seen so far. This is a complex paradise of negative space, plus the thematic negative space of hats without heads. Brilliant. 10
posthumous blue ribbon for you |

I'll take the one w/the black ribbon and the felt one lower center! What a creative shot! Lots of texture here. Nut much negative space...I'm trying to see the well lit area as negative space, but it's very hard. |

well, I say, that's a lot of hats! This is easily my favorite photograph in the challenge. However, I don't think it's great in terms of negative space. In fact, what I like about this photo is that it is great despite the lack of negative space. There is barely anywhere on the ground without a hat. And the only part of the photo without hats has an equally strange addition, a man with a broken down car. Makes one wonder what it has to do with the hats. Is the man a hat salesman who likes to display his best prize-winning top-of-the-line hat under the hood of his car like a little shrine or is this simply a man who enjoys collecting hats who is having automobile trouble in the middle of a move who is throwing all his hats out of the car (yet keeping them organized in piles (according to what I can't decide) in preparation for transferring them to his friend's car who has offered him a ride? |

Makes me think of the children's book "Hats for Sale." Not quite feeling much negative space though. It's a bit too busy to meet any interpretation of that idea, in my book. |
