 Taken in the same trip I took my "Backsides" entry but much earlier in the day, around noon at Skógar. The waterfall is Skógarfoss. There were a lot of tourists around as this is one of the more popular stops for guided tours around the south shore of Iceland so I merely had to wait till one or more of them stopped to gaze in awe of the spectacular waterfall. The couple standing there were completely unaware I took this photo of them, a little later I walked past them but didn´t talk to them but I think they were speaking German. I also got a couple of photos of other people that were similar to this one but I chose this shot cause I just thought the motorcycle outfits contrasted nicely with the white water and I liked the fact that the only thing in color in the whole shot was the motorcycle helmet.

As for post processing, first raw conversion, shadow hightlights to squeese out a bit more texture in the falling water and then dragged the saturation down and contrast up with Curves. Not really fond of the slight halo around the couple but since it´s basic editing I couldn´t really do anything about it but I wanted the contrast more than no halo so I let it stay that way. Finally sharpened and added frame after resizing.

By the way, this photo is not really what I personally would call negative space as I concieve negative space to be nothing but after checking out earlier challenges with the same topic I think this does conform to what most DPC voters would consider negative space. That means I most defiantely would understand if some of you who vote do not think this meets the challenge, such comments would hardly surprise me, will actually be more surprised if I do not get comments like that during the voting stage.

You did a great job in bringing out the texture in this. I think it applies to the challenge just fine :)

so-so negative space, but great photo. you know, the more I look at this, the more I see negative space in the dark parts of the waterfall. It is, in fact, essential to the composition.

Is that a motorcycle helmet or what? It makes me feel a little like they are aliens on some bizarre planet. Nicely composed. The small bit of white between them (a remnant of tonemapping or s/h perhaps?) has a rather strong pull on my eye but not much you can do about that in basic.

The scale shown and the raw power of the falls alone make this an out of the ordinary photos. The great light and tones though, really take it to the next level. Well done!

This is a good picture. I'd love to have this photo op. I wish that they had on bright jackets, instead of the bright helmet. That just seems a little strange to me. I like how the water is all misty around them, and the difference in scale is awesome.

Very well composed, stunning scene. There are several similar shots on this site (same waterfall perhaps) which perhaps detracts from the impact slightly, but this remains one of the best in the challenge.

I like the idea but... I find the helmet a bit off-putting - the colour and design kind of draws me to it but it doesn't fit the feel of the shot to me.
