Thanks for your comments on this. This was shot hand-held from around 20 feet away. Since I'm colourblind, the red of the cardinal kind of blends in with the green background, but I'm guessing it's quite striking to the rest of you colour-sighted folk.

Hi Chris,

First did you climb the tree to get the picture? :p I haven't seen Cardinal before but she is so beautiful. The color is so vibrant, I guess you can spot this bird from a mile away. The DOF is also perfect, but have you experiment cropping the left part of the image? I feel the left side is a little bit distracting. Unless if the bird is facing the other direction. His eyes need more room to go on the right side than on the left. I hope you know what I meant lol. Overall this is a very beautiful photo. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Very nice photo! The colors, DOF and composition are all great. I wish we had Cardinals in Southern California...they are beautiful birds.
