Challenge: Candid IV (Advanced Editing V)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Tamron AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di LD Aspherical IF for Canon
Location: my garden, VT
Date: Jun 9, 2007
Aperture: 14
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/200s
Galleries: Animals, Macro
Date Uploaded: Jun 10, 2007

Messing around with the new camera in the garden, and in comes this dragonfly. He kept flying away & then returning; perhaps he was checking me out?
...anyway, I snapped a bunch, & like this as one of the best. I can't get over that grin!

Basic editing, despite the Advanced category: Crop, adjust lighting & contrast, spare saturation, resize for DPC

POST CHALLENGE: GEE! WHAT A BUNCH OF CRANKS VOTED IN THIS CHALLENGE.. SO WAIT, WE CAN TAKE A PHOTO & TURN IT INTO ANYTHING WE WANT USING PHOTOSHOP BUT ONE CANNOT INTERPRET A CHALLENGE TO HAVE A CANDID PHOTO NOT BE A PERSON?? VERY INTERESTING PHILOSOPHY INDEED!

For the record, he is alive, and did NOT pose for me!LOL!!:) This was very much a candid of a dragonfly, playing in my garden. The idea that I should have incorporated some of the garden is a good one.

Thanks for all the nice comments....

LOL - don't let them get ya down. With an occasional, enjoyable exception, you either shoot for the voters/scores or you shoot for yourself, but do not confuse the two. ;-)

Lovely photo and a beautiful macro. I agree with Becky...a bit more saturation might work well.

THANKS!! no flash, focal length of 243mm, and then cropped. I was lucky and got some other really great ones too, different perspectives & backgrounds, I'll post them maybe...just not ever again in the "Candid" challenge! :)

Oh, I don't know - kinda looks like he's smiling for you! :-) Nice shot of the guy, but I suspect most folks aren't going to consider this a candid.

This is funny. From the thumb I thought - oh, come ON. But in large this is a riot. I hope you get a good score. The macro is excellent. 8 from me.

Sorry, but a macro is not a candid IMHO... Gotta score low for tucking it into the theme...

Good capture of a dragonfly, and candid in the sense that it is not posed, (unless the bug was dead), but doesn't really "speak" to the context of the shot, or what was going on, so it just comes across as a nice bug shot.

Looks posed to me...just kidding. He/she does look like they are smiling though. Nice detailed photo.

I think a candid has to be of a person..Not a bad photo, but....

Great macro shot. Good angle and nice and sharp. I can't count it as candid though.

It is a great shot, but I cannot see the candid relevance in this.

Stunning image although I do struggle a bit with the idea of this as a candid
06/11/2007 02:24:56 AM
Should be a person.
06/11/2007 01:35:14 AM
Sorry - but something like this will never, ever be a candid in my book

I dont' know...looks like he's posing.

DNMC IMHO, but it's a fine, well composed, well focused photo.
