The clown was not performing at the time, but just waiting for a tourist to show up so he could put on his fake smile while they posed with him, snapped a picture, and tipped him a dollar. I could just see how tired and bored he was with the whole thing.

Not much processing ... crop, levels, contrast, brightness, lightness, saturation, USM, resize, USM, border, S4W. Yeah, his right shoulder is a bit hot, his face is in shadow, and I don't like the hot spots and harsh shadows on his nose, but for candids I think the expression and the moment is more important than technical perfection. Hope this does well with the voters.

---
Post-challenge: Well, I thought this was going to do much better. I think the voters spent more time in this challenge looking at the technicals, then at the expressions ... not just on my image, but on most of them in the challenge.

Re: the saturation comments ... i actually desaturated this guy on purpose, because I thought the muted towns accentuated his expression and the feeling I got from this shot better than the oversaturated clown-feel that many seemed to want.

fwiw -- here is the original:

he looks a bit washed out in the sunlight. Maybe a play a little with the color & light balance?

I think the sun is a little too bright and washes out the colors..

wish the highlights were toned down a bit ... his blown shoulders hurt this one ...

Must confess to having a real aversion to clowns!!! Good bokeh although the colours feel a little flat. nice candid though

I like the subject and the idea, maybe a little blown out in areas but overall nice image.

would be nice with a bit more saturation/contrast to emphasize the clown look!

Nice candid shot, but I feel that it could have scored better with some more processing to reduce the haze cast over the image.
