Funny, I just called it a Christmas Pickle without knowing the history behind it. Only after people started commenting on it that I found some information out.
As Harz pointed out it's an American tradition. Supposedly all the stories of it being a German tradition, finding it for a lucky or special prize was all made up just to increase revenue. Actual Germans know nothing about the tradition, even glass blowers in Germany that make Christmas decorations.
This one was given to us by my girlfriends parents. This was one of many glass blown decorations in a very large box of glass fruits, veggies, dolls and other various Christmas themes. We hang this one on the fish tank where our fish "Mr. Pickles" lives. |

The pickle is delightfully tacky and well photographed...good DOF. It is, BTW, a German trandition, the pickle part, not the face. |

LOL, looks like a runner bean... Good shot, maybe a little sharper would have helped. |

We used to hunt for these to see who opened the first present... Brings back fond memories of all the tacky Christmas traditions we had/have. Plus a nice use of light and reflection. |

Very tacky! At least in my eyes, because I just recently read in the internet that the pickel in the christmas tree is supposed to be a German tradition in the eyes of the US-americans. It ain't! Totally unknown in Germany.
Anyhow, technically it's well made, nice use of light and DOF. Great background too. Maybe the pickle is captured too straight. Taking the image more from the side might have been better.
And of course it fits the challenge. Good luck! |

I recently read about the tradition of the christmas pickle, something like the first child to find the christmas pickle on the tree christmas morning gets an extra gift or something like that.
Cute shot, nice lighting. 7 |

Hey, a pickle on the Christmas tree is a Polish tradition. It is to be the first on and the last off of the tree. Great picture. I agree this is a tacky pickle |

OMG...this is tacky! Good lighting except the bulb on the top left is distracting. Perhaps if there were more bulbs, or no bulbs. But what a pickle! |
