 210mm zoom with a eos 500d close-up lens on my 70-300

taken in chicago. it's the year for the rise of the 17-year cicadas. those things are huge, and travel in HUGE packs. eekh.

the "suit" on the left is a molted cicada skin. i was afraid of the guy on the right deciding to fly into my face, setting off a chain reaction that started with me screaming like a girl and ending with my lens shattering after i threw my camera at it and ran away.

crop, levels, color, unsharp mask.

Wow. In the whole scheme of things against its pretty scary to think that there actually bugs that look like this. I do like to focus, exposure and composition on this photo. best Of luck with your entry.

I think it could use a little more DOF.
