Challenge: Painting With Light III (Basic Editing) Collection: Portfolio Camera: Nikon D80 Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 ED Location: Clovis, CA Date: Jun 3, 2007 Aperture: F 4.2 ISO: 400 Shutter: 30 Seconds Galleries: Abstract, Landscape Date Uploaded: Jun 4, 2007

I placed a remote flash unit to the left pointed up at the tree. I set the camera at 30 second exposure, F4.2, ISO 400 with the timer at 10 seconds. When I got the auto-focus beep, I fired the shutter and ran in front of it with the flashlight. I placed myself with my back turned toward the camera and the flashlight facing back toward the camera because I can't write backwards. When the shutter opened, I started writing.
When I finished writing, I grabbed my second remote flash unit, ran behind the house (out of the view of the camera) and fired it toward the other remote flash unit effectively firing them both. Then I walked back to the camera to see what I got.
After the 75th attempt (give or take), I had a good shot with reasonably good writing.
I adjusted exposure up to max to see and reduce noise, then adjusted exposure back down, leaving it up .5. Adjusted vibrance, saturation and contrast. Cropped and added border.

A remarkable photo! Even without the light writing, the night photo is terrific! I love the spotlights of light - there's subtle yet create interest. It's nicely framed - except maybe that shadow on the right and the white thing in the bottom left corner. The writing is magnificent. It really fits the challenge and looks great! I do wish you had made full use of the 640 pixels! |

Superb picture, the background is a little too busy for my liking but great never less. |

Very well done, the image isn't blown out and the writing is almost prefect, but the background leaves a lot to be desired. 7 |
