One of my friends is really into portraits so I've been playing with hers. What I've found that works good(so far) is on a background copy layer using the magic selection tool for just the skin, applying Gaussian Blur (~4-7 pixels) and then decreasing the opactiy to about 30-50% (your preference on how much). Then I magic selection tool the eyes and increase the brightness and contrast to about 6-10. You may know this already, just thought I'd throw that out there. Personally, I think it's a great portrait with great lighting/great subject. |

Lovely portrait, Dave. Is this the same girl as the one with the rose? She is so pretty and lighting and pose are so flattering. I think this deserved a much higher score, but all the commenters seem to agree that the focus on the eyes isn't quite sharp enough. It's amazing what a difference tack sharp eyes make. |

nice lighting and skin tones - would have liked a little sharper on the eyes - it seems the focus is more on the mouth |

I like her expression very much, just a bit soft in the eyes. 8 |

She does indeed have beautiful eyes. I think the camera focused on her clothing and not her eyes though, leaving her eyes out-of-focus slightly. I like the pose and the headband at the top is a nice touch! |

looks like everything is a bit out of focus and the lights are too close to her. Try pulling them away about 1 foot and try again. |

Beautiful eyes, face, smile, dress - deserves more flattering lighting and clearer focus! :-) |

it appears a bit soft and I find the lighting too bright on her chin and neck - great connection with her though, appears you just missed

Great composition, wonderful personality and life captured in her face, but the lighting and focus seem just a bit off (her skin comes off a bit too yellow). In a portrait like this, the eyes are the powerful draw and they need to be absolutely nailed. Notice how the eyes are a bit soft and the lips seem to be the sharpest focus of the image. |

I like everything about this except the light is a bit too harsh. It has created a few distracting shadows. |

shoulder sharp, lips in focus but the eyes feel soft - I hate it when that happens! |
