As DPC grows, perhaps another ruleset, somewhere between expert and advanced editing, will be introduced to allow for this specific situation.
Meanwhile, I agree with Brad. Both you, and your photo are definitions of class. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your excellent work. |

Thanks for the support but this disqualification should not not command such a stirup(?). I have read the rules more carefully, should have done that before. No big deal. I will keep posting my stuff. The competition side of things has not been a big concern since a very long time. I enjoy the comments though. |

Heh, don't fret. It's just a dumb virtual ribbon. Your image is stunning no matter how you came to make it look like this. Got a 9 from me without hesitation. |

JJ...amazing job. Not a failure at all. I certainly hope that you don't believe the words that are put into our mouths by people who do not understand. Editing or no editing, this captures a beautiful moment in time, one that touches many hearts and one that these people will remember forever as well.
Your edits are also amazing, drawing out this touching scene from the background, and really are what make this photo even more amazing. It may be too much for the challenge...but DEFINATLY not too much to make the photo great.
Congrats either way. |

Dang it's a shame this was disqualified, but I would like to extend a handshake for a couple of reasons, one of which I have already stated belong in my original comment after the challenge.
Two, for the way you have handled yourself in this situation. Class.
And three, for a congratulations on creating a masterpiece that could grace any fine magazine, hardcover book or be included in any piece of literature used in the course of teaching photography and the element of human emotion.
Bravo.

Bosborne, I'd like to personally thank you for NOT renewing your membership. If you can't find it in your ethics to submit within site rules, you shouldn't be here. While this is a great shot, many more shots could be just as great with significant editing that is outside the rule sets that you agree to when you submit an image. Accept the rules or don't post. That's pretty easy. |

Nobody ever said it was a failure. According to SC (since I haven't seen an original, myself) it broke rules. It could be the Mona Lisa and end up disqualified if it broke editing rules. (He used a brush in basic editing. Hah!)
To quote one of my favorite movies: "This isn't Nam, Donnie, there are rules!" It's a great photo - I quite like it, but that doesn't mean it deserves to retain its ribbon. Do Olympic atheletes get to keep their golds if its discovered they juiced? No. Professional sports? Oh, yeah, they get to keep their rings. |

this is such an emotional photo...brought a tear. this wraps up everything that photography is to many, and a lot of emotion that everyone strives to capture with the click of their own shutter...you've done a great job here. i'm literally speachless. great job. i was most definitely one of those 10s, and would have given it the spinal tap 'one better' 11 if able. you're truly an inspiration. thank you for pushing me to get better. |

Such a fantastically emotive shot. This split second in time seems to speak volumes about these two people and their love for one another. Such a tenderness, quiet shared joy, a speck of majesty, and wee bit of sadness all wrapped up in one moment. Love the deep dark tones and the contrast. Exquisite photograph. I'll go ahead and join the masses and make this a favorite - if I could do it twice, I would.

Once in a while, images grace the pages of DPCHallenge that reach out and grab hold of something deep inside me. This is just such an example. During the voting, I clicked on the thumbnail and when it came to life, full-screen, an EKG would have recorded a change in my heart rhythm.
You have a gift. Something catches your eye, and may very well be the things in life we all look at, but never see, yet you manage to know just what to do to bring them to the screen, alive, with a soul, and stick in one's memory, days, weeks, months later, and I can't find the words to describe it other than magic.
Thank You.

I see you got the Posthumous Blue Hand to go with your Yellow Ribbon. What pulls I think, is the sense of paralysis in his face, to go with the obviously suggested paralysis of his body. Overwhelmed? Restrained? But something suggests to me ... Uncomfortable, and that perhaps says more about him. Love, affection, can sometimes seem stifling. |

Very nice. Unusual and interesting subject. Can't tell what it is on the left that is obstructing the view (coat over a chair maybe?) but it isn't distinct enough on its own to be interesting and is placed in a way that it sort of throws off the balance of the shot. Otherwise, really nice work. |
