Challenge: December Free Study (Advanced Editing I*)
Camera: Canon EOS-D60
Location: West end of Fire Island, New York
Date: Dec 25, 2003
Aperture: f/3.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/60
Galleries: Emotive, Landscape
Date Uploaded: Dec 27, 2003

Taken near the west end of Fire Island, with the Robert Moses Needle seen in the distance. It was near dusk, and the wind gusts were kicking up the sand and waves (I almost lost my hat). I've always loved the beach, and I spent many days of my youth playing on these beaches.

A nice photo with lucious colors and good reflections! The soft focus effect which may be a matter of resolution adds aesthetically, except for items one would expect to be sharer, lile the background objects. The main nit for me is the tilt to the right (nonnlevel horizon)

Beautiful colors and tones. I do find the orange object in the foreground and erect structure on the left to be distracting. I also wish you had captured the waves in better focus. Still a worthy picture.

Great colors and the softness of the sand is quite nice.

All I can say is... WOW! I can see hwere some burning was done (in the sand) And it works well here. The perspective is also grand and majestic. Is that steam coming up from the water or cloud reflections? 9

Great empty landscape with lovely colors and soft flowing colors between water, sand and sky. Looks like the wind is really blowing hard. You should have picked up the little orange object in front and thrown it away, but I know, you usually only see it when you get home.

Here is a masterful shot. The point of view and focus and colors all work together here very nicely. My gaze ultimately ends up at that object at left, though. Is that where you want to to look? 9

Maybe this would be better if you had been closer to the lighthouse? Or maybe not ... can't tell until I can see photo like that. But thir is a great capture ... -8 from me

Great colors here, but I find it a little compositionally uninteresting.

Beautiful scene. The horizon looks a little tilted.

I love the leading line of the shore to the structure in the back. The colors here seem a bit muted - but it works for me. =

This is just an unusual and stunning landscape. I like the mist or dust showing movement in this shot. It really is good.
